Sabrina Hernández is one of the most beloved and respected nutrition experts in the community, particularly for her cutting-edge and holistic approach. Her charisma and ability to explain the most complex aspects of proper nutrition in a simple, enjoyable, and relatable manner have made her a favorite guest on television programs and a regular source in press articles.
She is a registered and licensed dietitian, certified diabetes care education specialist , and nutrition counselor, graduating from Florida International University with a degree in Dietetics and Nutrition. A member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics for over 25 years, she is the president of the local chapter of the Miami Dietetic Association. She was named the Dietitian of Greater Miami for her missionary work in Africa, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico City, focused on alleviating childhood malnutrition and hunger.
Sabrina was honored with the Silver Knight Award from the Miami Herald for creating Heart Lights, an initiative based on fashion shows by high school students that generate funds to feed the homeless in Miami-Dade County.
Sabrina was born in Hialeah, Florida, where her parents moved after emigrating from Cuba in search of freedom. She grew up watching her mother cook daily the dishes she sold at a homemade food restaurant. However, her relationship with food was not always healthy, and for much of her adolescence, she had to deal with overweight issues, which brought her closer to another of her great passions: fashion.
Sabrina earned a degree in Fashion Design and Marketing from the International Fine Arts College in Miami. She had a successful career in that industry in Washington, D.C., working with renowned designers such as Oscar de la Renta. However, topics of nutrition and holistic wellness continued to capture her attention, as she had personally experienced a radical transformation through dietary changes and exercise.
Her desire to learn more about how to stay healthy and lose weight led her back to university to obtain her degree in nutrition and dietetics. She traded costume design for cutting-edge meal plans and nutritional supplements, firmly believing that everyone should care more about their inner design—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. “What you wear matters sometimes, but what you eat always matters,” she notes.
For several years, she maintained a private practice, designing various products for her brand “Que Flaca, Fuerte y Feliz” and “Hummingwell,” hoping to inspire women from all cultures to maintain a healthy relationship with food, as well as improve health markers to avoid various nutrition-related diseases.
She is the author of The Orac Diet , What to Eat and How. co-author of The Empty Cup Runneth Over, Miami Breast Cancer Experts, and Experts in Pink, a guide for breast cancer prevention.
The ORAC diet is a smart, realistic, and friendly way to eat foods highest in antioxidants. It helps with weight loss and maintaining it long-term. Each recipe is created not only to achieve good dietary quality but to prevent diseases, assures Sabrina Hernández-Cano. “We want our community to learn to control their weight, reduce inflammation, avoid diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular issues, boost their immune capacity, and everything that can be achieved through proper nutrition and healthy habits. There is so much we can do to support our well-being, and that is our mission: to help
Nutrition that fits into real life: structure and consistency without extremes—helping you feel calm and confident around food, with habits you can actually sustain.
A plan that truly fits you: realistic, personalized strategies aligned with your goals and lifestyle—not “perfect plans,” but plans that work and are measurable.
Results that show inside and out: more energy, confidence, and overall wellbeing—so you look and feel amazing while building routines that last.
